Yesterday, the UK Government announced changes to grants available to offset the cost of a new electric car.

The Grant previously contributed up to £3,000 towards the cost of a new electric vehicle priced at £50,000 or under, aimed at encouraging people to make the switch. However, the previously high cut off meant that the grant could be claimed towards some luxury, high-spec or sporty models.

The cut off has now been slashed to £35,000. By doing so, the government aims to allow for the funding to be available to more people for a longer time. Whats more, the number of electric cars priced under £35,000 has nearly doubled since 2019 – so UK Gov is confident that this provides a realistic budget for motorists to make the switch to electric.
